Registered Nutritionist, Author and Recipe Developer
I am Sarah Flower, a registered nutritionist, cookbook author and recipe developer with nearly 30 years of experience bringing nutrition and real food together.
My publishing journey began with money saving, time conscious cooking. My first books focused on stretching budgets without sacrificing nutrition. Eat well, spend less. Practical meals for busy households. Real food that worked in real kitchens.
From there, my work evolved alongside family life. Slow cooker recipes for busy days. Halogen oven books as new appliances found their way into British kitchens. The Busy Mum’s Cookbook. Food that respected time, budget and the reality of juggling work and children.
Raising my boys as a single working mum shaped everything. I learned how to cook nourishing meals with limited time and a limited budget. Healthy food does not need to be complicated or expensive. It needs to be achievable.
Earlier in my career, I also taught primary school children to cook from scratch. Whether we were making muffins or pizza, the aim was simple: build confidence in the kitchen. Refinement and optimisation come later. First, we reconnect people with food.
For me, food is nourishment for both body and soul. It is comfort, resilience, creativity and family life woven together. My philosophy has always been to encourage people to eat real food and enjoy the process. Nutrition refinement can come later.
As my clinical practice deepened, so did my recipe development. Sugar free. Grain free. Lower carbohydrate. Keto approaches. Specialist dietary frameworks for those needing more targeted support. But the foundation never changed. Real food first. Skill building first. Confidence in the kitchen first.
I create comforting family meals as confidently as I develop recipes within strict nutritional parameters. Grain free, dairy free, plant based or high protein. Whether it is comfort food for a busy household or recipes designed to support anti inflammatory protocols, I love shaping food to meet the brief without losing flavour or generosity.
In clinic, I support clients across the UK with gut health, hormone balance, autoimmune conditions and metabolic challenges. My work combines functional medicine testing, lifestyle strategy and tailored dietary support, always grounded in practicality.
Beyond the kitchen, creativity continues in other forms. I love vintage finds, old cookbooks, stoneware and objects with history. Painting is another passion, and my abstract work often sits quietly in the background of my kitchen shoots.

I have just set up Heart and Thyme, a platform to share my my passion for nutrition, cookery and creativity. You can check out my kitchen letters on Substack - Here.
